The DSM was developed from empirical data and with a descriptive methodology, with the aim of improving communication between clinicians of various orientations, and clinicians in general with diverse researchers. Therefore, it is not intended to explain the various pathologies, nor to propose lines of pharmacological or psychotherapeutic treatment, nor to ascribe to a specific theory or current within psychology or psychiatry.
ICD-10 is the acronym for the International Classification of Diseases, 10th edition corresponding to the Spanish version of the English version ICD, an acronym for International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems and determines the classification and coding of diseases and a wide variety of signs, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, social circumstances and external causes of damage and / or illness.
On June 18, 2018, the World Health Organization published the new edition of its disease manual. This edition (ICD-11) will enter into force in 2022 to replace the current one since 1990
